I am currently an ophthalmology specialty intern at Animal Eye Guys, a private practice in South Florida. I am writing to apply for an IEOC membership. I recently applied for an ophthalmology residency. I have a specific interest in equine ophthalmology due to my background in equine sports and experience with equine medicine. I grew up riding hunter/jumper but recently switched the wonderful sport of polo. When I discovered equine ophthalmology in my veterinary education, it became a perfect bridge between my two passions: ophthalmology and horses. Prior to my rotating internship, I spent time after graduation with the ophthalmology service at the Ohio State University CVM and greatly enjoyed working with equine patients and observing their surgical procedures (conjunctival graft procedures, transscleral cyclophotocoagulation, etc). During my rotating internship, I performed research investigating equine infectious keratitis and submitted my work to the Journal of Ophthalmology earlier this month. By applying for an IEOC membership, I hope to continue to contribute and follow my passion for equine ophthalmology.
